Tanka Engineers LLP is an ISO 9001:2015-certified consultancy specialising in gold and mineral processing, delivering engineering, procurement and project-management support to mining clients worldwide. Gold processing plants are never copy-paste designs. Every deposit writes its own rules - ore mineralogy, clay behaviour, gravity-recoverable gold, sulphide association, water quality, cyanide response, tailings characteristics, climate and logistics. What works cleanly at one site can quietly destroy recovery at the next. This principle is being tested in full at one of our current projects: an 1000 TPD carbon-in-leach (CIL) gold plant under construction at altitude in Kyrgyzstan. Set against the Tien Shan mountains, the plant integrates gravity concentration, CIL and Merrill-Crowe circuits in one of the more demanding logistics and climate environments Tanka has worked in. Building at altitude sharpens one discipline above all: designing for the ore and the conditions in front of you, not the plant that worked last time. Thin air, temperature extremes, extended supply lines and a short construction window each impose their own constraints on equipment selection, circuit design and execution sequencing - constraints that must be engineered for from the outset rather than corrected during commissioning. Tanka's role spans the full arc of delivery: testwork review and flowsheet development, gravity and CIL circuit design, detoxification, tailings, plant layout, procurement support and commissioning. Across each stage, the objective remains the same - making recovery, reliability and plant stability hold consistently at site, under real operating conditions. Because successful gold processing is not only about designing a plant. It is about making it work. Tanka Engineers LLP - Practical engineering for real mining conditions. Mining ventures begin long before excavation equipment reaches the site. Behind every operational pit or underground shaft lies an intricate financial blueprint designed to evaluate economic sustainability. Central to this blueprint are Mining Project Feasibility & Capex-Opex Studies, structured evaluations that measure the financial practicality of extracting mineral resources under real-world conditions. These assessments determine whether projected revenues can justify the capital investment and operational commitments required throughout the mine’s lifecycle. Capital expenditure, often referred to as Capex, represents the upfront investment needed to establish infrastructure, acquire equipment, and prepare the site for production. Operating expenditure, or Opex, reflects the recurring costs associated with running the operation efficiently. Together, these financial dimensions define profitability thresholds and influence strategic decision-making at every stage of development. Defining Capital Expenditure in Resource Development Initial investment in a mining venture can be substantial. Site access roads, processing facilities, tailings management systems, power supply networks, and environmental safeguards all demand careful budgeting. Major capital components typically include: Land acquisition and permitting • Construction of processing plants • Procurement of heavy extraction equipment • Development of transportation networks • Installation of water and energy systems Accurate forecasting of these investments is essential. Underestimating costs may lead to funding gaps, while overestimating can reduce investor interest. Precision in early-stage budgeting establishes a strong financial foundation. Understanding Operational Expenditure Once production begins, operating costs determine whether the project remains economically viable. These expenses fluctuate based on production volume, market conditions, and resource grade. Primary operational elements include: Workforce... Industrial facilities are under constant pressure to improve output while controlling costs, energy use, and environmental impact. In many cases, the limitation is not a lack of resources or demand, but hidden inefficiencies within existing systems. This is where Process Plant Debottlenecking Consultants play a critical role, helping organisations unlock latent capacity without major capital expansion. Debottlenecking focuses on understanding how materials, energy, and information flow through a plant, then refining those pathways to support sustainable, long-term growth. Rather than relying on large-scale redesigns, this approach emphasises precision, data-driven insight, and incremental improvement. Understanding What Debottlenecking Really Means A bottleneck is any constraint that limits overall system performance. It may appear as a single piece of equipment, a process step, or even a procedural delay. Debottlenecking involves identifying these constraints and addressing them through targeted interventions. The goal is not simply to increase speed, but to achieve balanced and stable operation across the entire process chain. Why Bottlenecks Often Go Unnoticed Many plants operate below optimal capacity without obvious signs of failure. Equipment may function correctly, yet overall throughput remains stagnant. This often occurs because inefficiencies accumulate gradually. Minor delays, suboptimal control settings, or uneven material distribution can collectively restrict performance without triggering alarms or breakdowns. The Role of Data in Identifying Constraints Accurate data is the foundation of effective debottlenecking. Process historians, flow measurements, and performance indicators reveal patterns that are not visible through observation alone. Analysing trends across operating conditions helps pinpoint where losses occur and why certain... Modern precious metal recovery relies on carefully engineered processes that balance efficiency, safety, and consistency. Among these processes, electrowinning remains a critical stage for extracting dissolved metal from solution streams following leaching and elution. Advances in engineering, materials, and automation have transformed how recovery cells are designed and operated. Understanding the principles behind Gold Electrowinning Cell Design provides valuable insight into how today’s recovery plants achieve higher yields with greater operational control. Understanding the Role of Electrowinning in Recovery Circuits Electrowinning is the stage where dissolved metal ions are deposited onto cathodes using controlled electrical current. It represents the transition from chemical processing to physical recovery. The effectiveness of this stage directly influences overall plant output, energy efficiency, and downstream refining quality. Modern systems are designed to operate reliably within integrated recovery circuits. They must accommodate variations in solution chemistry, flow rate, and metal concentration while maintaining consistent deposition performance. Core Principles Behind Cell Design At its foundation, an electrowinning cell is a balance of electrical, chemical, and hydraulic considerations. Current density, electrode spacing, and electrolyte movement all influence deposition quality. Well-designed cells promote uniform current distribution across cathode surfaces. This uniformity reduces uneven plating, minimises short-circuiting risks, and improves stripping efficiency during metal removal. Materials and Structural Configuration Material selection plays a decisive role in performance and longevity. Cell tanks are commonly fabricated from corrosion-resistant polymers or lined steel structures to withstand aggressive chemical environments. Cathodes and anodes are selected for conductivity, durability, and ease of handling. Stainless steel... Introduction Gold price assumptions are a critical foundation in every mining financial model. The selected price influences project valuation, investment decisions, and financing outcomes, regardless of whether the project is at the early-stage study phase, approaching development, undergoing expansion, or under evaluation for acquisition. The recent rise in gold prices to approximately $3,800 per ounce, compared to the 10-year average of $1,700 per ounce, demonstrates the commodity's volatility and the inherent difficulty in selecting a realistic and defensible price for long-term financial projections. Current Market Context Since early 2023, the gold market has seen a sustained, month-by-month increase. Prices have climbed from $61 per gram in January 2023 to $124 per gram in October 2025, effectively doubling within less than three years. Monthly fluctuations of up to 8–10% highlight the sensitivity of mining project economics to changes in gold price. This upward trend is evident in several recent high-profile transactions: Gold Fields – Gold Road: approximately US$2. 4 billion Red 5 – Silver Lake merger: approximately US$2. 2 billion Porcupine Mine sale: approximately US$425 million Coffee Project sale: up to US$150 million Zijin Gold IPO (2025): valuation exceeding US$40 billion These deals have been completed in a high-price environment, but historical cycles suggest that commodity prices eventually correct. Projects that appear profitable at peak prices may face challenges when prices move back towards long-term averages. Guiding Principles for Gold Price Selection Early-Stage Projects For early-stage projects, it is prudent to use long-term average gold prices (5–10 years) as the basis... In Gold Exploration, trenching is a vital method for defining the boundaries of mineralization based on surface indications. It involves excavating long, shallow trenches across potential mineralized zones, allowing geologists to observe the ore body’s structure, lithology, and mineralization patterns directly. This process is essential for understanding the continuity and geometry of gold-bearing zones before drilling, providing critical data to guide more accurate drill targets. Trenching acts as a cost-effective step between surface mapping and expensive drilling. It allows exploration teams to assess the potential of a project with lower upfront costs, reducing the risk of investing in non-viable areas. For structurally complex deposits, such as gold, trenching is key to identifying fault lines, folds, or other geological features controlling mineralization. The Tanka Geo Science team recently completed trenching and pitting work in Sierra Leone, defining key mineralization zones that will optimize the upcoming drilling phase. Our team’s structural analysis of ore bodies ensures more precise exploration planning, critical for resource definition programs. #Geology #GoldExploration #TankaEngineers #SierraLeone #Trenching #Pitting #Mineralization #OreBodyDefinition #Exploration Tanka Engineers LLP, an ISO 9001:2015 certified engineering consultancy, is rapidly gaining recognition as a leader in the precious metals sector, with a distinct focus on advanced gold processing and project management. With a surge in demand for mineral output, today, the mining and mineral industry calls for the assistance of a professional EPC consultancy firm to deliver a comprehensive service covering engineering, procurement, construction and overall Project management. Usually, Industry has a preference to go for a complete Turnkey supplier who covers all these services along with their equipment. According to Vivek Ranganathan MD, Tanka Engineers, "This has more shortcomings with elevated costs. Firstly, the Turnkey supplier will push all equipment in their supply range; some of it may carry outdated technology and it becomes a compromise. Second, there are not too many options available with a lot of mergers between competitors in the recent past thereby forcing clients to pay more than its worth and go by their terms. Most importantly, there is no validation of the complete system right at the start to ensure things are right in the first place”. Incorporated in 2017, Tanka Engineers is a professional Consultancy Company delivering one stop solutions, covering high quality engineering, procurement and construction services to the mining sector especially in commodities like Gold, Iron Ore, Copper, Graphite, Lithium, Cobalt and many more. The global graphite market is driven mainly by the high demand for lithium-ion batteries worldwide to facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles. The scale of projected growth of E Vehicles over the next decade is staggering and this will drive the battery mineral prices. There will also be pressure to reduce EV selling Price against the increasing EV penetration and the key will be to reduce the battery costs. By volume, graphite is one of the most important elements in any EV battery, with each EV containing between 40 and 60 kilograms of material. Despite discussions on battery chemistry changes, graphite will remain a dominant element in EV batteries for at least the next decade. Both synthetic graphite and natural graphite, in the form of the intermediate product spherical graphite, are used in the anodes of lithium-ion batteries. Substantial Natural Graphite extraction and conversion is required for the EV Battery market. Forecast for Natural Graphite demand is Bullish and with huge supply shortage expected over next 20 years. Gold’s value rises and falls just like any other investment. Gold Price movement is a reflection of Investor confidence and stock movements. The more negative news on economic growth, the greater the increase in the price of gold. As a long-standing commodity, gold is not a security for the speculative. Buying gold is a defensive measure: a guard against inflation, currency devaluation, the failure of less tangible assets, and other woes. Gold is seeing a pronounced increase in its price after 2011. The chart above gives an idea how gold has traded over the past 14 years. Based on recent analysis by experts all over the world, there is more uncertainty to come about the prospects for economic growth, including from COVID-19, and if low interest rates prevail, gold prices may well continue to rise.
